Do the Spring Fling

spring tulipsI don’t know where you are, but where I live it is full-on spring here.

Spring is the motivating season for me. When the weather gets warm and things start growing again, I come out of my state of semi-hibernation and start feeling the urge to get things done. We plow up the garden and start thinking about what to plant this year, we begin taking care of all the little things that need to be cleaned up or repaired from winter and I start thinking about what I want to spruce up inside the house as well.

Spring means it’s time to sort through all the winter clothes before we swap them out for something cooler and lighter. And that brings me to the dungeon basement where I start thinking we have too much stuff and it’s time for a spring fling.

Do you have a spring fling at your house?

I spring fling every year. In fact, I just finished this year’s spring fling and ended up almost completely cleaning out my youngest daughter’s closet. She has grown nearly 6″ since last summer so we pretty much emptied her wardrobe. Good thing it’s half-price day at the Goodwill next week.

If the thought of doing the spring fling and cleaning out all the clutter that’s accumulated in closets and basements and garages just completely overwhelms you, I can help.

Check out this great post on decluttering simplified that I published last spring over on my other site at Marie Leslie Media.

I’d love to hear about your adventures in decluttering.  What are your organizational challenges and what would you like help to get organized?

We’ve prepped our garden for planting and just started in the house- mainly the girls room. I’m amazed at how much garbage they collect! It horrifies me when I start searching that I haven’t been more on top of things…mom shudder. We also eliminated a bunch of too small, too warn, or because they have too many, clothes. That’s what horrified them.

Next…the kitchen and pantry. I LOVE spring!

Mine are the same way. No matter how much I declutter, I swear it’s reproducing under the bed or in the closet or something. And we have definitely pared down the numbers of clothes (as have I) along with the too small or just don’t like anymore clothes.

We had moved from the high desert to the otherside of the mountain; last Fall. Now, I think I am in a rainforest! Anyway, Spring is absolutely beautiful here! Lots of flowering trees and bushes, vivid green grass, and for some allergies. Last weekend, we went to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival. It was just amazing! As for my Spring cleaning, well, we are still downsizing from our move! I am a thrower. . .my husband is a pack-rat. You can imagine the problem we have. Two weekends ago, our youngest son came up and helped organize the garage. So now my pantry shelves are up, food has been checked for “best used by ____” and organized. The kitchen cabinets has been reorganized so they are more user friendly. Yesterday I started shampooing the couches and chairs. Spring and Fall are my favorite times of the year!

I saw some of the tulip festival pictures, Mary. It’s now on my to-do list. That looks absolutely amazing.

And doesn’t it feel good to get everything in order and feel like you are finally getting settled? I am so glad you were finally able to move.

Oh my heck, Marie! You NEED to come here in Spring! You would have a field day! Pictures can be taken of Mt. Hood (30 miles from my house) with snow still on it, the Tulip Fest., (45 mins. in another direction), the Portland Temple is about a 45 min. drive too, then there is the Columbia River just up the road a bit, a couple of hours and you are at the beach, or go over Mt. Hood and you are in the high desert! OBVIOUSLY, staying at my house would be central to anything you wanted to do! You would miss the Tulip Fest. but there is the Rose Fest. in June in Portland! You just pack up your can and come visit me! (Oh, and Oregon of course! )
